Planning your big day can be very stressful and time consuming as well as wonderfully exciting. I’m sure there will be lots going on, with organizing dresses, suits, cakes, invitations, cars, venues, flowers, DJ’s, fireworks and oh yeah, the photographer? To save you lots of time as well as put your mind at ease, here are some frequently asked questions regarding my services as your photographer.
Can we meet you before our wedding?
Absolutely, in fact I insist on it! I never take a booking without meeting a couple first. I always like to discuss your arrangements in person either in the privacy of your own home or at a location of your choosing wherever that may be in the UK. Here we can chat about all your plans and you may ask me any questions you may have regarding my services.
I’m really nervous about having my photograph taken
Ha ha I’ve got news for you, you are not the only one! Believe it or not this is the first thing I hear when I arrange a session for the first time. Many people feel very uncomfortable and self-conscious having their photograph taken. Part of my job as a photographer is to make you feel as relaxed as possible, only then will we be able to get the photos we both want. So please do not worry I have done this thousands of times before and our session will be exciting but above all, it will be lots of fun. I offer every couple a free photography session with no time constraints or limits in a location of your choosing. Is there a special place that means something to you both? We can use a local park, or a casual relaxed stroll around town, or find somewhere really grand (I know London very well I have shot there for years and know some really lovely spots). During this session you will get the chance to see me working, and have the opportunity to let me know your preferences. I can help you decide on how to achieve the best angles and lighting that will produce the most flattering images, and you will see what kind of imagery you can expect from your wedding photography. Most importantly we begin to develop a relationship that is so very important on your big day. Your images will then be edited to a professional standard, and they are yours to keep and use as you wish (My previous couples used these images for their wedding invitations). They will be uploaded the day after our session to my online password protected gallery where you will be able to view and download free of charge at your leisure. Examples of these sessions can be viewed here
Can we give you a list of photographs we specifically want?
Yes of course this is normally discussed in the pre-wedding consultation, and every wedding I have covered there has been a list from the bride. Despite having a “photojournalistic” approach there will always be a place for some “formals” and I still believe it’s nice to see all the family & friends dressed up for the day’s celebrations and it’s one of my favourite parts of the day!
How many photographs can we expect to receive, and how long will we have to wait until they are ready?
I never tell any couple how many images they are likely to receive. I pride myself on my ability to deliver quality rather than quantity. Rest assured I do take lots & lots of images throughout the day and after I have completed a first level edit & cull, deleted all the unusable shots such as; blinking, test shots, out of focus (not too many of those ha ha) etc. . I am left with lots & lots of great images which are then all yours. These are then edited individually to a professional standard, with a choice of styles to choose from either in colour and/or black & white. They will be available for you to download from my online private gallery in Hi-Res format within 2-6 weeks after your wedding depending on the selected package (more coverage means more editing time). I grant all publishing rights to reproduce as you wish (terms and conditions apply).
What happens if the weather turns bad?
Should the weather turn wet, my contingency plans include high quality studio lights that can be set up in a suitable room inside your venue. But if you’re ok with it we can shoot around the weather – sometimes rain or snow adds a nice dimension.
What happens if you are ill or can’t attend?
I have never been that ill to attend something I was booked to do. But I do have a couple of friends who I trust and would stand in for me should the situation arise.
How far do you travel?
Although I am based in Buckinghamshire, I will travel anywhere in the UK to shoot a wedding. All travel expenses are included in the package price within a radius of 100 miles from Milton Keynes, distances over & above this will incur a slight increase in mileage expenses. This may include overnight accommodation in a B&B if I’m having to travel large distances so I don’t have to worry about traffic and a long journey before your day begins and I get to start on a fresh pair of legs.
What kind of photographic style do you shoot in?
I have over the years developed what you could describe as a “photojournalistic” style that is unobtrusive, and candid. I mix this with the more “traditional” approach and I find it works very well. I do think it’s important to get those group and family shots and to have a memory of those who attended your wedding. I don’t really “stage” my photography and the few group formals I do are completed fairly quickly, leaving me time to get back to taking all those lovely quirky, candid shots that everyone loves. I like to shoot for the narrative of the day and tell your story through imagery that captures the essence of who you are, ensuring that when you see your photographs you will re-live your day over again.
What kind of equipment do you have and what if it breaks down on the day?
I only use pro-Spec Canon cameras. I have 3 Full frame bodies that are used throughout the day and one in reserve as a spare, plus an assortment of very (expensive) high quality “L” series lenses. These are specialist items that enable me to work in fairly low light without the need to use a flashgun (I cannot use any type of flash photography during the ceremony). They deliver exceptional image quality and enable me to work above and beyond the scope of ordinary lenses that come with a consumer camera. My equipment is serviced on a regular basis and it is meticulously checked before I leave the house. I only use high quality memory cards, batteries, audio recording & microphones, lights & modifiers flashguns (for outside work) umbrellas, light meters, laptop a projector & screen.
What is a photo film?
Simply put, a photo film is a collection of images set to music together with audio extracts from your ceremony & the speeches. This adds another dimension, totally enhancing your viewing experience. Sound is just as important as sight and together with your choice of music running in the background, you will have a more poignant reminder of your wedding day together with your album & photographs. Please note, this is available on my Gold package only. For an example please click here
What is a Slideshow?
A slideshow is a series of images of the day’s events projected onto a screen. I normally set this up just before the evening reception. All equipment is provided, giving you and your guests a sneak preview of the day’s photography. This is especially popular with those guests who arrive for the evening’s entertainment. Please note this is available on my Gold package only.
My friend has an expensive camera why don’t we let him shoot our wedding and save ourselves a lot of money?
Ok so this crops up quite a lot and with the evolution of the digital age, it has become more and more prevalent. When you book a professional wedding photographer you are getting so much more than someone who knows how to “just take photographs”, you are paying for experience, knowledge, and a guarantee of delivering a professional service to you on the most important day of your life. Personally I have spent a small fortune on equipment that I care about and love, I have spent years perfecting my skills, and a vast amount of time perfecting additional skills that are needed to shoot a wedding. There are literally thousands of cases you can read online where a couple decided to cut corners on the photography and regretted it. A wedding is a once in a lifetime occasion, probably costing an arm and a leg, and once all the celebrations are over you are left with only photographs for memories. Yes, your friend with his shiny new digital camera takes great shots of landscapes, the football game, your dog, the car, the swans that come every year to the bottom of your garden and the kids, but a wedding? Does he have more than one camera, does he have lenses that “see in the dark,” does he have a backup plan, does he have lighting, can he manage groups of complete strangers, can he handle problems that may crop up, can he organise and take pictures of large groups of people, could he edit and deliver a set of images that you will look back on in years to come and make you actually remember what you felt like on the most important day of your life with all your family & friends. In all honesty and with the greatest of respect, I doubt it. I am a wedding photographer for a reason, I love shooting weddings, photography is my real passion, I have invested in your day long before I met you both, I have the skills, the equipment, the knowledge and the desire along with the right attitude to offer you a service you will never forget. (My testimonials page will provide some reassurance for you here)

Why should we get an album?
Even though we now live in a digital age where we view everything on an assortment of screens, I believe having an album and physically leafing through the pages is an experience in itself. On anniversaries you will be able to watch the story of your wedding day unfold from page to page from the bridal preparations, through the ceremony right up to the magical fairy-tale moment that was your very first dance together as husband and wife. Through my images you will re-connect with how you felt on that day and I believe it’s because of how we seem to concentrate on pictures better, when we are holding them in our hands. This then is your family heirloom its pages will reveal what it was like to be there on the best day of your life.
I design all my clients’ albums personally to guarantee the very best in presentation and longevity using industry recognised sources that deliver outstanding quality & value, you will not be disappointed.
Please note that Albums & Coffee table books are not included in any of my wedding packages, they are available as additional items. Prices and styles do vary for examples please click here
